The organization was established in
1963 to administer building codes and to obtain technical
information from authoritative sources on matters concerning the
construction industry. This information is shared with the
organization's membership to promote fellowship and unity of
building officials and inspectors and to obtain broader viewpoints
and understanding of our mutual problems by promoting investigation
and discussion to obtain appropriate solutions to
construction-related issues.
As time went on and communities began
to grow and increase their populations, architects and contractors
began to show an interest in the organization and have since become
a permanent fixture within the membership.
In 1975 the organization became the
14th Chapter of the Building Officials and Code
Administrators International. Currently the organization is a
member of the International Code Council (ICC).
Effective as of 2001, the
organization was incorporated as a Michigan nonprofit corporation
known as SEMBOIA, Inc.
The SEMBOIA
organization has continued to grow throughout the years and, for
over four decades since its inception, has operated exclusively to
improve business conditions among code enforcement officials and
provide training to assist re-registration of southeastern Michigan
building officials, inspectors, and plan examiners in accordance
with
Public Act 54 and
Public Act 230, as amended.
SEMBOIA will continue to provide
continuing education training for the re-registration of building
officials, building inspectors, and plan examiners as required under
Public Act 54 of 1986. The organization will also introduce new
technologies utilized within the industry and will continue to
monitor the changes in legislation.
