Staff from the Planning and
Building/Inspection Division hosted a booth Friday evening,
July 30 and all day Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1,
2010 at the Orchard Lake Fine Art Show in West Bloomfield.
The booth featured a community development display (code
enforcement, planning, and building/inspection divisions) as
well as informative brochures and handouts. Staff also
distributed junior inspector hard hats, crayons, and color
books for the younger attendees. And let me tell you, these
kids circulate around the event and create the buzz for the
junior inspector hard hats. We passed out over a hundred
yellow and pink hats.
This year's goal was an
effort to help promote the community development department;
why is the Building Codes Professional important? What does
a Building Official do, a Building Inspector, and who needs
a building permit and why? We also included planning
division information; updated master plan, clear zoning, new
wind and solar ordinances, and show case some township
properties. The feedback from the show was outstanding.
My team is working on our
next event later this year in October. This show is an
effort to help local businesses that offer products and
services by offering them a venue to showcase their
products and services to local consumers.
